Beware of Franklin Furniture

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Approximately 18 months ago, we spent over $5,000 on a powered Franklin leather sofa, love seat, and corner piece (sectional). It by far has been the VERY WORST furniture we have ever owned.

We explained to our sales person we were looking for quality construction and comfort; we received neither. We have had two motors go out, the switches have been recalled and have been know to catch on fire (been waiting for them to be replaced for over a year), 4 of the five seats have bulging springs, the cushions have crushed down, the back lean back in an uncomfortable way, and we have had electrical issues with lighting.

Made in the USA or NOT, the workmanship and quality and the materials used by Franklin give "made in the USA" a bad name. Never again will we purchase any kind of Franklin product.

Just over a year of owning this brand, the fabric is unraveling and splitting on 5 of the 7 seat cushions. The center cushion on the sofa now has so little support, your legs are below the top level of the cushions on either side when sitting on it. For some reason this brand name was changed to Savannah and now this set is not offered on their website anymore. Hmmmmm. Customer rep offered to sell seat cushions to replace the damaged ones. I have to find someone to do the work. The warranty was a year, but for this to happen just a few months after and the website proudly tells of high quality; something isn't right.

I have the same furniture had the seats fixed twice under warranty. Now that it's out of warranty all the furniture has ripped cushions.

Free financing for 48 months too bad the furniture didn't last as long as the payments ! Never buying Franklin furniture again or shopping at Rothman again!

Budget furniture at a high quality price

We have had our reclining sofa for a little over two years now. It still looks like it did from the showroom because we take care of it and we barely use it.

Last year it started making a popping when you reclined it so I called to have it serviced. Someone came out and when they flipped it over to look at it the particle board frame in the back along where your lumbar spine would be were broke in half. They tried saying they would not warranty it because me must have jumped on it. We are in our mid 30s and have no kids so don't try that *** with me when it still looks new.

I called again and the next guy that came out said it was a defect and they would fix it. When we got it back it worked to check it out and then shortly after we had our kitchen flood. We stacked cloths on it and it didn't get any use for a couple months. Now it is popping again and I believe that when they fixed the board they neglected to fix the metal that bent due to the board breaking.

Again they are saying that the metal that is bent is our fault and they won't fix it. I have another guy coming out to give me a second opinion on friday.

I am taking days off for this piece of *** to keep being looked at for repair. once they fix it I will never be making another Franklin or Art Van purchase again.

With in 6 months of purchasing a sectional that was not cheap, the fabric ripped, the two recliners broke. We had them fixed by the warrienty company but that took awhile for them to come and fix. Now its been 3 months later and 2 more recliners broke, one was the one that was repaired and the other one was a different one. I have never been so disappointed in my life especially when a person pays a lot of money for something.

Power recliner reported to cause fires on show room floor, but not recalled

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought a Franklin power chair from Slumberland in Dec 2013. Finally got the chair in late Jan 2014.

About two weeks ago Slumberland called me to tell me to unplug the chair as there were issues that may cause a fire. They stated no customers were affected, it happened on the showroom floor. Well, if it can happen in the store, there is sure a chance of it happening at home. Today they called again, 1-1-15, to tell me to make sure to keep it unplugged as they are still researching what caused the problem.

So, I now have a chair I can't use, can't recline with no power, and am expected to wait until they decide what they want to do.

I feel if there is a chance of a fire, they should recall the chairs. Very upset, will never buy a Franklin again, or shop at Slumberland.

These chairs are ***.... We bought two as we were told that you can still get out if the power goes out.

One day I came home and found out the power had been out for 2 days.

My handicapped wife was stuck in the chair and could not get up. She was dehydrated and barely breathing.

THE FIREMAN HAD TO STEP ON THE PLUG BECAUSE THE PLUG AND PLASTIC PLATE AND PLASTER IS MODED TOGETHER.

Guest

I filed a complaint with the BBB today on Slumberland. I am not going to install the part myself.

Very poor customer service to resolve a problem. They should have stood behind what they sold, and they did not.

Guest

We got the same letter and will not replace the part our self it is not our job we paid for a recliner that works and we want our money back or a new couch in exchange without a recliner.

We still haven't heard anything since and will be going back to Rooms to Go this week to speak with them about this product.

Guest

I got a replacement part in the mail yesterday. Guess we are expected to fix it ourself.

I hope Franklin and Slumberland both lose business over this mess.

But we as the customers have to now deal with furniture that we have not been able to use for two months and will always be nervous to leave it plugged in. Learned my lesson, will not buy from either again.

I bought a chair and half reclainer from slumerland around Oct 14. I got the call from slumerland on 23 Dec 14 telling me to unplug the chair due to a chance of a fire.

They told me that it would be 5 to 10 days before they had more information. On 1 Jan 2015 I received a second call that it would be another 2 weeks before they (slumerland) would have any information. On 21 Jan 15 I stopped at the store and was told that it would be another 2 weeks before they would know anything. This time I was told that it now was a federal national recall and that franklin was working on the problem but they needed to design a new switch get approved find someone to make it in the numbers needed train people to install it and set up times to come and do it.

I just stated to him that as soon as you said the feds are involved it will not be 2 weeks, it will be more like 2 years.

I see from reading here that this is not a new problem. I seems like this goes back to Fed of 2012. I would say slumerland should step up to the plate and take ownership of this problem and deal with it.

Then THEY can recover from franklin thier losses. If like the person I talked to who I belive was the manager says is true, he belives franklin will not survived this and will go under, then we will all lose.

Same call to our home about this problem. We live in Canada and were told they found the problem and someone would be out to exchange to motor.

Still no response from them but we did receive a register letter from the company that we bought this chair from. What is our next step.

We have a recliner thas is unplugged and afraid to plug it in. Kinda feel like we are caught in the middle of this problem.

My son spent over $2,400.00 on a power reclining loveseat and a reclining sofa. Got the same call has had it two months and can't use it.

Asked to replace it with a manual won't do. Is mad. He is only 30 and still paying on them. Working hard over 14 years at the same place.

Won't probably shop at Slumberland any more either.

Don't replace the part yourself. If you do and it doesn't work that puts it on the consumer not the manufacturer.

We are returning to the store to see if they will take it back. I am thinking a Recall means you can return the product...gonna ask one of my lawyer friends at work Monday.

Bad recliners

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Bought 2 recliners, one was supposed to be leather. It was bonded leather which has now peeled horribly. The smaller one has already been fixed once and is now hardly fit to sit in. The "leather" chair has been fixed 3 times and has been broken for 6 months this time. I would never advise anyone to purchase a product made by this company. They do not keep their word as to repairs, they even claimed that they did not sell bonded leather. I told them to come to my house and I would show them the one they sold me ,they refused.

Franklin Sectional with 4 4 Recliners

Most difficult chair to close we have ever experienced. Have decided to get rid of this $2800 sectional that is a little over a year old to get something much easier to close. My 88 year old father has a Lazyboy sectional that is very comfortable and operates like a dream. Furniture should not be so difficult so I would say stay away from Franklin unless you are twenty years old and training for an Olympic event. We have searched for remedies but have found nothing. I think I feel a knee replacement coming on and my wife might need a disc replacement in the near future. I think it would be easier to leave the chair in the reclined position and jump over the back to enter and exit the beast.

I bought a $2,700.00 fabric sectional couch brand new from Farmers Furniture and I am pissed. The first six months the legs broke off and after 9 months the cords to the recliners and vibration/heat mode started showing. Not even two years old now as of aug 6th 2015 all the stuffing is out of one recliner, it sits side ways!!!! Not to mention the fact the stitching at the seams is starting to fray at an an enormous speed. We have no pets or small children. Just the husband and I. Never again.

Franklin Recliner

Purchased and added extra warranty to insure satisfaction. Totally disappointed with product and company response. There is no concern for the customer. Called company and was informed customer service would get back in touch. Three days after warranty expired I got a return call. I was informed that even with extended warranty, the company requires customer pay for return and be prepared to pay all or part of repair and pay return shipmentoffered to return item to point of purchase, only to be told the warranty I was sold was a third party and Lane and Lazy Boy both much better companies and offer some aid with defective items. Will never purchase another item from this company, this store and definitely not an extended warranty.

Recliners started to fall apart after 6 months. We had extra warranty from store it took them over a month to replace the rocker part of on recliner because of Franklin back order.

Warranty didn't cover fabric. They started to fall apart after 1 year. Buy one get one free wasn't a good deal after all. Normal wear and this is what one chair started to do.

Plus they sent the wrong part for the rocker so it sits crooked. Authorized repair person didn't know how to repair it. Don't buy!!! Not worth the money if they fall apart after 6 months.

We complained to the store and they said call Franklin.

I didn't bother because they would say call the store.

Franklin Furniture Recliner Review

After only 4 years of light use our recliner looks like it is 20 years old. The leather is peeling off and the chair sits one sided. My husband is having back pain from trying to sit in it. I contacted the furniture store where I bought it and they tell me there's nothing they can do. I am a very dissatisfied customer and will NEVER buy another Franklin product.

Bought couch and love seat. Within 1 yr we had the warranty guys out 7+ times! First it was stiching that came undone, they fixed it but ot looked like ***! Then we started javing more problems with the mechanics underneath. They came out i. Febuary said they couldnt find anything wrong, came back out in March when it was getting worse and our year warranty had ran out so they submitted to the extended warranty. They declined to fix it saying it was not covered. Have emailed and called several times NO response at all. Will NEVER BUY Franklin Furnicher again.

Springs colaspsed. Have very flimsey thin metal rods with hook on end to hold them up.

About three weeks ago I went to sit on our three year old Franklin couch and the springs gave way. We immediately went to Levins in Greensburg, PA and told them of the problem. They were very helpful. We were told this couch has a lifetime warranty on the frame and springs. They said all we would have to do is pay for the labor of a non-warranty furniture repair company. The repair company sent a man to come look at it. He took pictures and reported it to his boss. His boss then reported it to you. They sent replacement parts to fix our springs and were told by someone at your company that this was a fluke and there was nothing wrong with the hook supports used to hold up the couch springs. Well let me tell you there is a problem! The man came here today to use the parts you sent him and they will not fix the problem. He will be back in about two weeks after he gets something from you to fix the problem. Ok now it will be at least one month and a week since I have been able to use my couch. This should never happen! Unless your company does something to make this right I will not buy or recommend Franklin furniture to anyone. Word of mouth means a lot to a companies success and Facebook is a powerful tool. Sincerely, Karen J Karas
